For Dick Fosbury, 1968 Olympian Gold Medallist
With a step, skip and hop
he went over the top
with the Fosbury flop.
In eight or ten strides
he approached from the front,
Then turned in a J,
Gave a skip, jump and hop
and went over the top.
Enough of the straddle
and the roll from the west
or the cut from the east,
this true revolutionary
landed flat on his back
but the bar did not shiver.
By thinking it through
and taking straight on
a bar he must conquer
he got the gold medal
and hopped to the top
with the Fosbury Flop.
