From a holy place on the northern coast
of an isle in the centre of a wine dark sea
we unearthed a figurine vaulting over
a bronze Minoan charging bull
moulded in wax then clad in clay
tin from Turkey alloyed with copper
transported from the Copper Island
we found this image of ambition
leaping not falling on the other
through four thousand earthly years
forebear of Spain's recortador
Picasso's bull and the Minotaur.
